Domājams, Spartaks ir viena no tām vēsturiskajām personībām, kura stāstu par vergu un gladiatoru sacelšanos daudzmaz ir dzirdējusi lielākā daļa un vēstures interesenti jau nu noteikti. Šajā gadījumā Andrejs Upīts un viņa stāsta interpretācija lugas formā četros cēlienos un divpadsmit skatos.

Pieļauju, ka skolas laiku gan kāds lugas fragments būs ticis lasīts, bet tagad Spartakam ir tas gods būt pirmajai lugai, kuru izlasu no vāka līdz vākam un no brīva prāta. Kaut arī jāpiebilst tāds sīkums, ka diezin vai grāmatu varētu šobrīd ierindot pie izlasīto listes, ja vien grāmatplauktos nebūtu atstājis iepriekšējais dzīvokļa iemītnieks.

Tad nu ķeramies īsi pie paša Spartaka un lugas. *Maitekļa trauksme!* Pēc trīs gadu cīkstēšanās un mocībām, pēc impērijas pārstaigāšanas no viena gala līdz otram un atpakaļ, Spartaks kopā ar līdzgaitniekiem tiek pārliecinoši sakauts. Manā skatījumā šis Spartaks galīgi nebija piemērots, lai būtu par līderi. Spartaks ir pārāk maigs, pārāk ‘’pareizs’’ un cēls, nepietiekoši brutāls un agresīvs. lai spētu kontrolēt un vadīt gan tuvākos domubiedrus, gan desmitiem tūkstošu lielas masas. Bet lielais mērķis atbrīvot visus vergus un pārtraukt verdzību šķita visai utopisks, neņemot vērā apkārtējo situāciju un laiku. Tādos brīžos varēja sajust darba izdošanas laiku un vietu, kā arī autora pieskāriens, kurā izpaužas tēlu izteicienos/pārdomās, piemēram, nedabiskas šķita frāzes par varbūtēju Romas sabrukšanu pēc četriem gadu simtiem. Vēl pie mīnusiem var pieskaitīt pēkšņas un aprautas beigas.

Bet ja nedaudz par lugas formātu kā tādu, tad pietrūka apkārtējās pasaules uzbūves plašāki apraksti un lielāks skatījums uz kopējo bildi, un salīdzinoši brīdis, kad skatpunkts no Spartaka pāriet pie leģiona komandiera, ir pavisam neliels. No dialogiem vien to neuztvert, bet gan jau, ka jāizlasa vēl kāda luga, lai būtu labāks priekšstats. :)

Zirgiem traucoties pa skrejceļu, to pakavu saceltā ritmiskā duna atbalsojas uzbudinātajās skatītāju tribīnēs! Kas zin, cik kurš uzlicis totalizatorā par kāda zirga uzvaru? Dun arī Andrieva Radviļa sirdsapziņa, kura ir izvēles priekšā, jo viņam ticis izteikts visnotaļ izdevīgs piedāvājums pieturēt zirgu, ļaut uzvarēt citam un pēcāk sadalīt vinnestus. Kāda būs viņa izvēle?*

Jāatzīst, ka izbaudīju tikai pirmo nodaļu, kur Radvilis jau kā večuks sagaida Alisi** pie sevis, domādams, ka viņu interesē nesen publicētā grāmata ‘’Purvzinības principi’’. Iespējams, saskatīju to, kā tur nebija, bet šķita, ka varētu sekot stāsts par dižu sāncensību starp diviem žokejiem vai pastarīša/underdog čempiona uzvaras stāsts ar vēsturisku fonu, ņemot vērā sēriju. Tālāk sekoja stiprs kritums un tik atšķirīgs valodas stils, ka radās sajūta, ka lasu divu dažādu cilvēku sarakstītu tekstu. Pilnībā cits žanrs, bet atgādināja DreaganStar. Ir lasīti vēsturiski romāni, kur pagātne un tagadne veiksmīgā saistīta kopā.

Vairākkārt seko novirzīšanās no galvenā varoņa Radviļa stāsta, lai tikai varētu iespiest iekšā pēc iespējas vairāk vēsturisku faktu.* Saprotams, ka ir vēl pēc iespējas plašāk atspoguļot attiecīgo laika periodu, bet nereti sanāca piedomāt pie sevis, vai patiešām sižetam tas ir tik būtiski. Rezultāts sanāk neorganisks un nebaudāms, vēsturiskie fakti ir sausi un ataino pasauli nevis caur varoņu acīm, bet jau ar mūsdienu cilvēka zināšanām. Un jāsaka, ka Radvilim ir jābūt vēstures entuziastam ar super labu atmiņu. Līdzīgi, kā ar vēsturisko informācijas gūzmu, ir ar personāžiem, kuri pazib uz mirkli, vai zirgu vārdu uzskaitījumu.

Skaidrāks palika pēc pēcvārda, kur autore mina, ka vairākas romāna lappuses tapušas no aculiecinieku stāstītā ar minimāliem labojumiem. Šaubos vai šiem sava laika lieciniekiem, stāstot savu pieredzi, prātā bijis ar grāmatas varoņiem simtprocentīgi saistīts stāsts, kur nu vēl vairākiem savā starpā.

Kā arī hipodromam, kas jau vairākas desmitgades vairs nav Rīgas realitāte, tikusi atvēlēta vien statiska loma pašā sākumā, tā vietā, lai tas būtu stāsta galvenā notikumu vieta un/vai sižeta virzītājs.

Mana recenzija (pārdomas)/My (thoughts) review

Solaris ir gan planēta, gan viens liels un pārsvarā šķidrs organisms ar saprātu jeb okeāns, kas klāj gandrīz visas planētas virsmu. Šis darbs liek iziet no pieņemtajās normas, kādam inteliģentam organismam būtu jābūt.

Planēta tiek aktīvi pētīta, un entuziasms ir liels, bet tas ātri vien noplok, kad iegūtie rezultāti un atbildes pēc daudzajiem pētījumiem un eksperimentiem nedod vēlamo. Kā arī, ciešot letālas neveiksmes, lielākā daļa pamet Solaris. Tiek apcerēta arī varbūtēja organisma izcelšanās, tā ietekme uz planētu.

Stāsta centrā ir Kriss Kelvins, kura pārdzīvojums ir liels, kad viņš kosmosa stacijā satiek savu mirušo draudzeni Hariju, kurai tur pavisam noteikti, pat neņemot vērā mirušās faktu, tur nevajadzētu atrasties. Pašsaprotama reakcija ir panika un atbrīvošanās no Harijas, bet par nepatīkamu pārsteigumu tas nedod rezultātu. Turpmākās attiecības jau kļūst pilnīgi citādākas nekā varētu iedomātis.. Lasītājs zina, Harija nav tāda vienīgā, kas radusies ar Solaris palīdzību, bet ar to arī viss; šķiet tā organisms pārbauda viesu garīgo izturību.

Kaut kāda iemeslu dēļ grāmata neuzrunāja un nepiesaistīja līdz galam. Varbūt noskatoties 2002.gada filmu (ir vēl divas senākas krieviski) vairāk taptu skaidrs.

Solaris is both a planet and one big and mostly liquid organism with intellect but what it is makes you think twice about – should an intellectual beings be in a solid form? Because Solaris is also an ocean that covers most of the planet’s surface.

The planet is being actively researched and the enthusiasm is big but as there are no concrete results and answers from all the research and experiments, and also suffering lethal mishaps many if not most eventually leave Solaris. Many possible versions how such an organism could have created and its effect on the planet itself are contemplated.

The centre of this story is Kris Kelvin and he is surprised in a bad way after he meets his dead girlfriend Harey on the space station. It’s clear that there are no ways she could have gotten herself there even if she would be alive. Panic and getting rid of Harey is an understandable reaction but as she later shows up again the solution to this problem has to be different. Henceforward their relationship evolves and become something I didn’t think of. The reader knows that Harey is created by Solaris and that she isn’t the only one like that, but that’s it; it seems that Solaris is testing the strength and endurance of his visitors.

For some reasons this book didn’t appeal to me. Maybe after watching the newest movie adaption (2002) some things would get more understandable.

Robert A. Heinlein – Stranger in a Strange Land (Audiobook)

Valentīns Maikls Smits, pēc izcelsmes cilvēks, bet uzaudzināts kā marsietis. Nokļūstot uz Zemes starp cilvēkiem, Maikls kļūst par svešinieku savējo vidū, ar spējām, kuras dēvējamas par pārdabiskām mums cilvēkiem, un filozofiju un uzskatiem kardināli atšķirīgiem

Spriežot kā viņš attiecas pret ūdeni, tad uz Marsa atšķirībā no Zemes tā ir stipri vien mazāk. Kā būtisku piemēru var minēt, ka Maikls izsaka gatavību apēst savu ‘’ūdens brāli’’ pēc tā nāves, lai pilnībā izmantotu šķidrumu. Arī viedoklis par laiku ir krasi citādāks, pateicoties marsiešu un arī Maikla potenciālam dzīves ilgumam.

Sākotnēji Maikls ir valdības rokās, bet medmāsa Džiliana nogādā viņu drošākā vietā un kopā ar Džubalu Haršāvu~, mēģina izprast Maiklu, un arī viņš viņus un cilvēkus kā tādus. Pārsteidz, ka tiek ar tādu izgājienu cauri sveikā.

Ja sākuma filozofiskas dabas jautājumu iztirzāšana ir interesanta un saistoša (cilvēku un marsiešu atšķirības), tad brīdī, kad Maikls ir izpratis jeb pielietotais vārds ‘’grok’’ cilvēka dabu, viņš dibina savu baznīcu/reliģiju, un debate aiziet galīgi pa reliģiozitātes taku. :/ Ticīgo pievēršanai noder Maikla spējas kā dažādu lietu pacelšana vai pazudināšana ar domu spēku vien, kaut gan apgalvo viņš, ka to spēj katrs, ja vien ir 100% izpratis vārda tiešākajā nozīmē lietu, tās būtību. Pēc noklausīšanās, atradu izteikumu, ka grāmata sarakstīta vairāku gadu laikā, kas, iespējams, kalpo kā izskaidrojums, kāpēc tā.

Hainlains atkal izcēlās; viens izteikums, ko īpaši piefiksēju, turklāt no sieviešu kārta tēla, ka izvarošanas gadījumā visticamāk sieviete pati uzprasījusies un ir pie vainas. Un beigu epizode ar akmeņu mešanu bija kronis visam! Tomēr grāmatas beigu aptuveni trešdaļa nepaspēj visu sabojāt. : )

                                                                                                                                                 

Valentine Michael Smith by origin is human but was raised as a Martian. When as an adult he is back on Earth between human beings, Michael becomes a stranger among his own, plus he is have powers that any Earthian would call as supernatural and his life philosophy and opinions are crucially different than ours.

Judging by his attitude against water then on Mars it’s probably much less than on Earth. A good example might be that for Michael it’s completely normal to eat his loved one or ‘’water brother’’ after his death to use his liquids. His viewpoint thinking about time also differs from ours considering how long a Martian and also he could live.

At the start Michael is in the hands of government but soon enough he gets out with the help from the nurse Gillian or just Jill and together with Jubal Harshaw they try to figure him out, the same of course goes in the other direction. Surprisingly there are no big retaliations for such doing.

If at the beginning the philosophical discussion was quite interesting and captivating like differences between Martians un humans then once Michael has figured out human nature or his used word ‘’grok’’, he establishes a new church/religion and the debate turns downright religious. :/ Previously mentioned powers like stopping things in a mid air or making them disappear and much more convinces many to believe in him. But if I grokked right :D then if you do understand something literally for 100% you are not far from doing something similar. After I finished this book I found a comment that it took year for Heinlein to write this book, and maybe that is an explanation enough.

Once again Heinlein managed to stand out and with one statement especially, that in the case of rape the woman violated probably is to be blamed herself. And the ending with stone throwing topped it all! However approximately the last third of the book doesn’t fully ruin the first two thirds. : )

Kathy Reichs – Death du Jour (Temperance Brennan #2)

Mana recenzija/My review

Temperansai Brenanai pašai par prieku ir iespēja padarboties ar vēsturiska apbedījuma pētīšanu un ekshumāciju, un sērijas otrā grāmata iesākas ar cerību, ka varētu būt labāka nekā pirmā.

Lieta, kurā piesaista Brenanu, saistīta ar dedzināšanu, un līķu skaits nav nekāds mazais. Turklāt divi no tiem vien četrus mēnešus veci mazuļi. Redzētais šokē pat pieredzējušākos detektīvus.

Lasītājam ļauts vairāk iepazīt Brenanas meitu Keitiju, kura savā ziņā seko mātes profesionālajās pēdās un nemazām nebaidās no līķu tuvuma. Uzzinām arī to, ka Brenanai ir māsa Harieta jeb vienkārši Harija, par ko iepriekšējā grāmatā nav nekāda mājiena.

Brenana savas pasniedzējas karjeras dēļ spiesta iegriezties ASV, un tiek nepatīkami pārsteigta, ka viņai lemts atkal atrast slepkavības upuri. Mazliet neticami, ka šis atradums saistīts ar izmeklēšanu Kanādā. Šī saistība liek ierasties detektīvam Endrū Raienam. Ar viņu bija saistīta mana prognoze par romantisko līniju, bet vismaz pagaidām tas atstāts vēlākam. Izmeklēšanas virzieni aizved viņus līdz sektai, kura no malas un pēc pašu biedru teiktā ir pats labākais, kas ar viņiem noticis. Brenana vēlreiz izmeklēšanā iesaistās pamatīgāk, kā pēc viņas profesijas vajadzētu; papildus uztraukumiem, ko tas sniedz, viņai pamatīgas raizes sagādā māsa – saistībā ar sektu.

Lai gan drusku mazāk, bet arī Death du Jour ir nedaudz par daudz zinātniskās valodas. Arī stāsta līniju par daudz un kopējais sižets uzreiz šķita saskaldīts un juceklīgs. Noslēgumā bija sajūta, ka dialogs izveidots mākslīgs, lai tikai visas stāsta līnijas savestu kopā un nolīdzinātu jebkādas palikušās neskaidrības.

Cerams, turpinājumi paliks labāki.

                                                                                                                                           

Temperance Brennan finally has a chance to apply her anthropologic skills outside her job with recent murder victims. She’s hired to examine a nun’s body which soon might get a title of saint. So the beginning of the books is promising.

The next case in which Brennan participates is arson and includes five bodies. Shockingly two of them are just four months old babies. Even the most experienced detectives are horrified by the sight.

The reader has a chance to get more acquainted with Brennan’s daughter Katy. She in a way follows her mother’s professional footsteps and isn’t grossed out (too much) by being too close to a body. We find out that Brennan has a sister Harriet or just Harry; that was a little surprise because there were no hints about it in the first book.

Brenan lecturer’s carrier makes her to travel back to USA, and she gets unpleasantly surprised as she on her holidays from work in Canada finds two more jobs which magically are connected to the arson case. This connection is the reason why detective Andrew Ryan has to come down. He was one of the characters about my romantic story line prognosis; but it seems that that will be reserved for later. The investigation leads them to a reclusive sect. From aside everything looks fine and no member is complaining. Once again Brennan does more than in her job description; additionally anxiety which it brings, she also starts to worry about her sister.

Although not so much but Death du Jour still had too much scientific language. Also the book had a bit too much story lines and the overall plot was too divided and chaotic. Plus, dialogs at the end were too simple and artificial. I had the feeling that the author tried too hard to explain everything and anything that possibly was still unclear.

Hopefully the sequels in this series are better.
