Grāmatas apraksts no Goodreads/Synopsis from Goodreads:

For the second time in his short life, Teddy Clock has survived a massacre. Two years ago, he barely escaped when his entire family was slaughtered. Now, at fourteen, in a hideous echo of the past, Teddy is the lone survivor of his foster family’s mass murder. Orphaned once more, the traumatized teenager has nowhere to turn—until the Boston PD puts detective Jane Rizzoli on the case. Determined to protect this young man, Jane discovers that what seemed like a coincidence is instead just one horrifying part of a relentless killer’s merciless mission.

Jane spirits Teddy to the exclusive Evensong boarding school, a sanctuary where young victims of violent crime learn the secrets and skills of survival in a dangerous world. But even behind locked gates, and surrounded by acres of sheltering Maine wilderness, Jane fears that Evensong’s mysterious benefactors aren’t the only ones watching. When strange blood-splattered dolls are found dangling from a tree, Jane knows that her instincts are dead on. And when she meets Will Yablonski and Claire Ward, students whose tragic pasts bear a shocking resemblance to Teddy’s, it becomes chillingly clear that a circling predator has more than one victim in mind.

Joining forces with her trusted partner, medical examiner Maura Isles, Jane is determined to keep these orphans safe from harm. But an unspeakable secret dooms the children’s fate—unless Jane and Maura can finally put an end to an obsessed killer’s twisted quest.

Grāmatas apraksts no Goodreads/Synopsis from Goodreads:

In this free Rizzoli & Isles short story from New York Timesbestselling author Tess Gerritsen, author of The Silent Girl, a bizarre death comes with a supernatural twist. Homicide cop Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Maura Isles have seen their fair share of mortal crimes, but the death of Kimberly Rayner may qualify as inhuman in more ways than one. When corpse of the emaciated seventeen-year-old girl is discovered next to an empty coffin in an abandoned church, mysterious bruises around the throat suggest foul play. Caught fleeing the scene is the victim’s closest friend, Lucas Henry, an equally skeletal, pale teenager who claims he’s guilty only of having a taste for blood—a craving he shared with Kimberly. Tess Gerritsen – The Silent Girl (Rizzoli & Isles #9)

9578677

Grāmatas apraksts no Goodreads/Synopsis from Goodreads:

Every crime scene tells a story. Some keep you awake at night. Others haunt your dreams. The grisly display homicide cop Jane Rizzoli finds in Boston’s Chinatown will do both.

In the murky shadows of an alley lies a female’s severed hand. On the tenement rooftop above is the corpse belonging to that hand, a red-haired woman dressed all in black, her head nearly severed. Two strands of silver hair—not human—cling to her body. They are Rizzoli’s only clues, but they’re enough for her and medical examiner Maura Isles to make the startling discovery: that this violent death had a chilling prequel.

Nineteen years earlier, a horrifying murder-suicide in a Chinatown restaurant left five people dead. But one woman connected to that massacre is still alive: a mysterious martial arts master who knows a secret she dares not tell, a secret that lives and breathes in the shadows of Chinatown. A secret that may not even be human. Now she’s the target of someone, or something, deeply and relentlessly evil.

Cracking a crime resonating with bone-chilling echoes of an ancient Chinese legend, Rizzoli and Isles must outwit an unseen enemy with centuries of cunning—and a swift, avenging blade.

Tess Gerritsen – Ice Cold (Rizzoli & Isles #8)

7202831

Grāmatas apraksts no Goodreads/Synopsis from Goodreads:

New York Times” bestselling author Tess Gerritsen’s relentless, inventive novels take readers on pulse-racing thrill rides that are as satisfying as they are heart-stopping. Now, in this edge-of-your-seat suspense novel, a mysteriously isolated town stands abandoned as a silent watcher waits.
In Wyoming for a medical conference, Boston medical examiner Maura Isles joins a group of friends on a spur-of-the-moment ski trip. But when their SUV stalls on a snow-choked mountain road, they’re stranded with no help in sight.
As night falls, the group seeks refuge from the blizzard in the remote village of Kingdom Come, where twelve eerily identical houses stand dark and abandoned. Something terrible has happened in Kingdom Come: Meals sit untouched on tables, cars are still parked in garages. The town’s previous residents seem to have vanished into thin air, but footprints in the snow betray the presence of someone who still lurks in the cold darkness–someone who is watching Maura and her friends.
Days later, Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli receives the grim news that Maura’s charred body has been found in a mountain ravine. Shocked and grieving, Jane is determined to learn what happened to her friend. The investigation plunges Jane into the twisted history of Kingdom Come, where a gruesome discovery lies buried beneath the snow. As horrifying revelations come to light, Jane closes in on an enemy both powerful and merciless–and the chilling truth about Maura’s fate.

Mana recenzija/My review

Alternatīvais nosaukums The Killing Place.

In its approach to  the crime and investigation Ice Cold in a good way is different from previous books in the series.

After another work related conference at Wyoming and disappointing phone call with Father Daniel Brophy, Maura agrees to go to a ski resort with an acquaintance from college, his daughter and two friends. But when the snow storm starts and weather gets horrible everything from good goes to bad and then worse. It proves that even being 100% optimist doesn’t help if someone shoots first and asks later.

When Maura doesn’t come back when she should and doesn’t answer to her calls, her friends and colleagues start to worry. Being representatives of law it’s easier for Jane and her husband FBI agent Gabriel Dean to advance the search. To Wyoming with them also go Daniel and Anthony Sansone from Mephisto Club.

At the beginning of the investigation almost everyone’s attention is to a religious commune. Although not without reason what dominates are stereotypes.

From other characters I would like to mention Julian Henry Perkins and his loyal dog Bear who have a very important role in the story after they meat Maura.

Most of the chapter are from POV of Maura; the situations and everything else reveals her other characteristic features. The book overall was much more psychologically powerful.

The alternative title for this book – The Killing Place.

Tess Gerritsen – The Keepsake (Rizzoli & Isles #7)

2653622

Grāmatas apraksts no Goodreads/Synopsis from Goodreads:

New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen knows how to expertly dissect a brilliantly suspenseful story, all the while keeping fascinated readers riveted to her side. By turns darkly enthralling and relentlessly surprising, The Keepsake showcases an author at the peak of her storytelling powers.

For untold years, the perfectly preserved mummy had lain forgotten in the dusty basement of Boston’s Crispin Museum. Now its sudden rediscovery by museum staff is both a major coup and an attention-grabbing mystery. Dubbed “Madam X,” the mummy–to all appearances, an ancient Egyptian artifact– seems a ghoulish godsend for the financially struggling institution. But medical examiner Maura Isles soon discovers a macabre message hidden within the corpse–horrifying proof that this “centuries-old” relic is instead a modern-day murder victim.

To Maura and Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli, the forensic evidence is unmistakable, its implications terrifying. And when the grisly remains of yet another woman are found in the hidden recesses of the museum, it becomes chillingly clear that a maniac is at large–and is now taunting them.
Archaeologist Josephine Pulcillo’s blood runs cold when the killer’s cryptic missives are discovered, and her darkest dread becomes real when the carefully preserved corpse of yet a third victim is left in her car like a gruesome offering–or perhaps a ghastly promise of what’s to come.

The twisted killer’s familiarity with post-mortem rituals suggests to Maura and Jane that he may have scientific expertise in common with Josephine. Only Josephine knows that her stalker shares a knowledge even more personally terrifying: details of a dark secret she had thought forever buried.

Now Maura must summon her own dusty knowledge of ancient death traditions to unravel his twisted endgame. And when Josephine vanishes, Maura and Jane have precious little time to derail the Archaeology Killer before he adds another chilling piece to his monstrous collection.

Alternatīvais grāmatas nosaukums Keeping the Dead.

The mummy Madam X from Crispin museum travels to hospital to have CT scan; the experts are hoping that it might reveal more about who she was. This event has raised a big interest in the press and that has helped to boost the museum’s recognition in the public. Maura Isles is also there to assist interpreting pictures. But what the scan reveals is more shocking than anyone expected and it’s clear that this mummy is from our era.

One of the POV is from archaeologist and Egyptologist Josephine Pulcillo. From early age she has been forced to always look over her shoulder and run away immediately if necessary, at the beginning with her mother but now alone. That sort of lifestyle has made hard for her to trust anyone and also to sometimes remember the truth.

While Jane’s partner detective Barry Frost is charmed by Josephine’s charm and beauty Rizzoli herself isn’t fooled and Josephine from the start has been suspicious to her. Digging deeper into her past they find more than one surprise, starting with her parents.

In the background Maura still tries to figure out her relationship with Father Daniel Brophy who shows himself very briefly. The same you could tell about Jane’s family. Few episodes are also given to the Mephisto club in Anthony Sansone’s person. Maybe I should blame the previous book I read but the seventh book in Rizzoli & Isles series wasn’t that exciting or thrilling.

The alternative title for this book is Keeping the Dead.

Tess Gerritsen – The Mephisto Club (Rizzoli & Isles #6)

Grāmatas apraksts no Goodreads/Synopsis from Goodreads:

Evil exists. Evil walks the streets. And evil has spawned a diabolical new disciple in this white-knuckle thriller from New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen.

PECCAVI
The Latin word is scrawled in blood at the scene of a young woman’s brutal murder: I HAVE SINNED. It’s a chilling Christmas greeting for Boston medical examiner Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli, who swiftly link the victim to controversial celebrity psychiatrist Joyce O’Donnell, Jane’s professional nemesis and member of a sinister cabal called the Mephisto Club.

On top of Beacon Hill, the club’s acolytes devote themselves to the analysis of evil: Can it be explained by science? Does it have a physical presence? Do demons walk the earth? Drawing on a wealth of dark historical data and mysterious religious symbolism, the Mephisto scholars aim to prove a startling theory: that Satan himself exists among us.

With the grisly appearance of a corpse on their doorstep, it’s clear that someone or something is indeed prowling the city. The members of the club begin to fear the very subject of their study. Could this maniacal killer be one of their own or have they inadvertently summoned an evil entity from the darkness?

Delving deep into the most baffling and unusual case of their careers, Maura and Jane embark on a terrifying journey to the very heart of evil, where they encounter a malevolent foe more dangerous than any they have ever faced . . . one whose work is only just beginning.

There are crimes you can’t simply explain or understand, only as created by evil, and criminals you can only describe with the word monster. Members of Mephisto Club have chosen not to run away from it but to explore and to study it as closely as possible. But there might be a day when the price for that is too high. For ‘’huge’’ pleasure for detective Jane Rizzoli psychologist Joyce O’Donnell (from previous books in the series) is a member of this club, plus ideas by other members makes Jane a very big skeptic.

A brutally murdered woman’s body is found, and initially everyone thinks about religious/satanic connection. Even investigators with experience are startled. This time Maura Isles gets involved very deeply in the case so much that her life is in more danger than ever before.

Fragmentarily the reader gets the murderer’s POV. Also some chapter from POV of Lily Saul, 12 years ago she lost her entire family, and later was so frightened that was forced to fly over the ocean and to look behind the shoulder every day.

For both Rizzoli and Isles there are some complications in their personal lifes. Rizzoli’s parents after decades long life together have very big disagreement and are very close to divorce. Rizzoli has no option but to intervene and bring them to some sense. Meanwhile Maura struggles with her feelings for Father Daniel Brophy. Although her mind realizes the reality, her feelings and heart tells her something else.

Grāmatas apraksts no Goodreads/Synopsis from Goodreads:

A blessed event becomes a nightmare for pregnant homicide detective Jane Rizzoli when she finds herself on the wrong side of a hostage crisis in this timely and relentless new thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Body Double.

A nameless, beautiful woman appears to be just another corpse in the morgue. An apparent suicide, she lies on a gurney, awaiting the dissecting scalpel of medical examiner Maura Isles. But when Maura unzips the body bag and looks down at the body, she gets the fright of her life. The corpse opens its eyes.

Very much alive, the woman is rushed to the hospital, where with shockingly cool precision, she murders a security guard and seizes hostages . . . one of them a pregnant patient, Jane Rizzoli.

Who is this violent, desperate soul, and what does she want? As the tense hours tick by, Maura joins forces with Jane’s husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, to track down the mysterious killer’s identity. When federal agents suddenly appear on the scene, Maura and Gabriel realize that they are dealing with a case that goes far deeper than just an ordinary hostage crisis.

Only Jane, trapped with the armed madwoman, holds the key to the mystery. And only she can solve it–if she survives the night.

Mana recenzija/My review

Pagājis aptuveni mēnesis kopš Body Double beigām, un Ridzoli kuru katru brīdi var sākties dzemdības. Kur viņai tāda ‘’veiksme’’, ka tieši attiecīgajā dienā kļūst par ķīlnieci slimnīcā. Nodaļas līdz attiecīgajam momentam arī ļoti labas – teiksim tā, reizēm arī miroņi pamostas.

Ik pa brīdim atskats pagātnē no Milas skatpunkta(tagadnes stāstā ienāk vēlāk).

Ķīlnieku krīze saceļ kājās bezmaz visus Bostonas žurnālistus, bet viens no viņiem, Pīters Lūkass, uzskata, ka sava darba godīga pildīšana nav pietiekama.

It’s been about a month since Body Double ending and it’s time when the labour for Rizzoli could start any moment now. How ‘’lucky’’ you have to be that in the exact day you become a hostage in the hospital. Chapters leading to that moment are very good – let’s just say that sometimes dead people might wake up.

From time to time there are flashbacks from POV of Mila (she comes into the present story later). Together with her is one of hostage takers Olena. Hoping for American dream girls from East Europe goes over the ocean with the promise of a job but can’t imagine what kind of job it will be. You might think slavery doesn’t exist anymore and definitely not in the USA, but in this books they become sex slaves. Environment that these girls are force to live in are just horrible. One night Mila and Olena are really lucky escaping that place and sure death (at that moment). That event brings them together with Joe. Many times on CNN I have seen documentaries about this problem.

The hostage crisis assembles almost all Boston journalists as everyone tries to understand what’s happening. But one of them, Peter Lukas, thinks that what he receives for his job isn’t enough. Again I have to think how statistically probable is the chance before the crisis when Maura Isles trusted exactly to him to tell the story about what happened in morgue.

I would say that Vanish could be separated in two parts; the second would be after the hostages are freed. Unfortunately for Olena and Joe it doesn’t end well but until the moment all hell breaks loose they, especially Joe, sounded like pure conspirators, like that the big corporations actually control the country.

They are not that far from truth, only in this case it’s about abusing power trying to cover up what you have done.

Besides all that I would like to congratulate Rizzoli and Gabriel with the new born daughter Regina. Liked those chapters where Gabriel, her colleagues and friends do everything they can to free her and others. The book was so good that I flew through it, read most of the chapters in one day.
