Mana recenzija (pārdomas)/My (thoughts) review

Notikumus lasītājs uzzina no žurnālista Eda Malona skatpunkta viņa stāstījumā jau pēc tiem, tādēļ jau sākumā ir skaidrs, ka vismaz viņš un profesors Čelendžers, ja jau viņam par godu sērijas nosaukums, līdz grāmatas izdzīvos.

Eda satikšanās un iepazīšanās iemesls ar profesoru ir raksta veidošana par viņa pārdrošie izteikumi par aizvēsturisku dzīvnieku (jaun-)atklāšanu, un, ka dinozauri nemaz nav izmiruši. Lai gan nedaudzie it kā pierādījumi Edu pārliecina par Čelendžera taisnību, lielākā daļa pārējā sabiedrība un akadēmiskās aprindas viņu izsmej. Konkrēti man viņa personība un daži izteikumi par, piemēram, Dienvidamerikas pamatiedzīvotājiem, kā arī citu tēlu pastrādātais patika nepārāk.

Hronoloģiski pēc šīs tikšanās norit publiska Čelendžera viedokļa paušana un aizstāvēšanās, kur pārējo reakcija ir līdzīga jau minētajai, bet dzimst aša ideja par ekspedīcijas rīkošanu, lai pārliecinātos vai nu par to, ka Čelendžers visu ir izfantazējis un tā saucamie pierādījumi safabricēti, vai arī, ka par dinozauriem saucamas dzīvības formas nekur nav pazudušas, varbūt vienīgi daba tos labi noslēpusi.

Ekspeditoru skaits nav ievērojami liels, bet pieminēšanas vērti ir arī lords Džons Rokstons, uzdzīvotājs ar kāri uz savu daļu azarta un piedzīvojuma, un Čelendžera akadēmiskais kolēģis profesors Sumerlijs. Abi, bet īpaši jau kolēģa kungs, nekautrējas apšaubīt Čelendžeru un ir lieli skeptiķi.

Atceros, ka pirms vairākiem gadiem šķiet pa LNT kanālu rādija seriālu ar tādu pat nosaukumu, kas ļoti patika, protams, tagad maz kas palicis prātā. Vai nu tajā laikā neievēroju, ka tā ir grāmatas ekranizācija, vai vienkārši nelikās svarīgi, ka izlasu/noklausos (pirmo) grāmatu tikai tagad.

The events are told from the perspective of journalist Ed Malone. They are told after them so it’s clear that at the beginning that at least Ed and professor Challenger (if series is in his name) will survive until the book ends.

The circumstances why Ed went to meet with professor was to write an article about his bold statement about rediscovering prehistoric animals and that dinosaurs are not extinct at all. Although the few evidence Challenger has convinces Ed that he is telling the truth, most of public society and also his academic colleagues ridicule him. Particularly for me his personality and some viewpoints like about natives of South America weren’t that likeable; the same could be sad about some of other character actions.

Some while after this private meeting Professor Challenger organizes a public discussion where he defends his claim, and the reaction of those who have come are similar to the one already mentioned. But there a quick idea to create an expedition to make sure either Challenger has made every up or that life forms with the large name dinosaurs haven’t disappeared from Earth, only that the nature have successfully hidden the for a long time.

Number of people who participate in this expedition isn’t big, but those who are also worthy to be mentioned are Lord John Roxton, a bachelor and hunter that likes a good thrill once in a while, and the colleague of Challenger – professor Summerlee. Both, especially Summerlee, are big skeptics and are quick to doubt Challenger’s allegations.

I remember that some years ago on a local TV channel there was a TV series with the same title and of course little of what happened there has been forgotten. I’m not sure if then I didn’t notice that it was based on a book or it just didn’t seem important at that time, but I’m happy that I finally have listened this book.
