Grāmatas apraksts no Goodreads/Synopsis from Goodreads:

Told with deadpan humour & bitter irony, Kurt Vonnegut’s cult tale of global destruction preys on our deepest fears of witnessing Armageddon &, worse still, surviving it …
Dr. Felix Hoenikker, one of the founding ‘fathers’ of the atomic bomb, has left a deadly legacy to the world. For he’s the inventor of ‘ice-nine’, a lethal chemical capable of freezing the entire planet. The search for its whereabouts leads to Hoenikker’s three eccentric children, to a crazed dictator in the Caribbean, to madness. Felix Hoenikker’s Death Wish comes true when his last, fatal gift to humankind brings about the end that for all of us, is nigh…

Mana recenzija (pārdomas)/My (thoughts) review

***************************************

If people were asked, which man made weapon so far is the most dangerous, many might answer that it is atom bomb or nuclear weapons. And from that we could discuss if because of that and/or other components the mankind has unconsciously chosen a destructive end.

Cat’s Cradle was first published in 1963 and the drop of two atom bombs on Japan probably is still fresh in people’s memories.

But what if there’s potentially even more dangerous weapon than atom bomb, which as many inventions was created with good intentions. Such a thing is ‘’Ice-nine’’ or the ninth variety of ice which freezes when it 100 degrees Fahrenheit and keeps freezing anything near it with even a tiny bit of water in it, and let’s say it could allow an army to save up much needed resources and time and cross a swamp. But, oh no! The freezing power of ‘’Ice-nine’’ is so unimaginably strong that it doesn’t stop just with this invented swamp and has barely started. In the wrong hands ‘’ice-nine’’ can doom the whole planet!

That’s the world in which our main character John lives in. It seems that the major part of book’s humor passed me, but I can’t deny San Lorezno is one funky place.
