Grāmatas apraksts no Goodreads/Synopsis from Goodreads:

After winning the most dangerous case of his career, prosecutor Penn Cage decides to remain in his Southern hometown to raise his young daughter in a safe haven. But nowhere is truly safe — not from long-buried secrets, or murder….When the nude body of prep school student Kate Townsend is found near the Mississippi River, Penn’s best friend, Drew Elliott, is desperate for his counsel. An esteemed family physician, Drew makes a shocking confession that could put him on death row. Penn will do all he can to exonerate Drew, but in a town where the gaze of a landmark cemetery statue — the Turning Angel — never looks away, Penn finds himself caught on the jagged edge of blackmail, betrayal, and deadly violence.

Mana recenzija (pārdomas)/My (thoughts) review

***************************************

Five years have gone since the intense Payton case and in this time Penn Cage has managed to adjust to the life in Natchez and to get into the council of local high school. The same can’t be said about Caitlin Master, most of the time she is away because of work and her ambitions catching the big stories, and lately Penn, thinking about himself and his daughter Annie, isn’t happy with this distant relationship.

Penn’s lawyer and investigator skills are being tested when his childhood friend Drew Elliot asks for his professional help before any suspects are mentioned in Kate Townsend’s (a student from Penn’s school) murder case.

Drew himself claims that he is innocent, but as tells more and more about what happened and his truth, it doesn’t look good. What makes it a much harder defense case is that Drew (married) had intimate relationship with Kate, which started more than 7 months ago and 2 weeks before Kate was 18. If not the friendship between Penn and Drew and the fact that Drew saved Penn’s life when he was 14, I don’t think Penn would have agreed to defend him.

It’s interesting that in this book Penn again had a female helper whose contribution and the gathered information helped greatly to find what happened the night when Kate died. This time that person is Annie’s nanny and Kate’s classmate Mia. And Penn himself can taste the temptation of a young and beautiful woman, to which his friend and defendant fell for. Penn more than once is surprised and shocked hearing what young girls nowadays do and are willing to do.

Violence, narcotics, political intrigue and passion in relationships. The all allows Turning Angel to be (almost)  as entertaining as the series first book.

While not as good as the first book, it seems that the series is still going well, and is still very engaging. I should really start listening to audio books. I would cover so much more of my TBR. =)
