Kādudien Niklāvs Vaire-Vairogs saņem interesantu piedāvājumu no amerikāņu investoru pārstāvja ar potenciāli ļoti lielu peļņu. Niklāvs kopā ar drauģeļiem rada iespaidu kā mazi puikas, kas mēģina spēlēt lielo zēnu dzīvi. Un dažreiz izrādot savu iniciatīvu, kā arī tādi, kuri, protams, nelaidīs garām šādas vieglas peļņas izredzes.

Autors nekavējas pārstāvi Barkovski kopā ar amerikāņiem dažnedažādi negatīvi apzīmēt. Savu reizi līdzi paķerot arī latviešus, kā tādus, kas nemāk izmantot labu iespēju, kad tā ir acu priekšā.

Niklāva tēva brālis ir ministrs, kas lieti noder. Tiek nodemonstrēta, cik labi, ja augstos posteņos ir kāds radinieks. Šķiet pārāk daudz nav mainījies.

Investoru piedāvājumā ietilpst apvienot jau esošās biedrības vienā kopējā, atvērt dažādus atpūtas un brīvā kavēkļa namus u.c.; tad arī no tā izriet visi Niklāva tālākie piedzīvojumi ar dibināšanas lietām. Ir gan tādi, kuri paši bāžas klāt, lai tiktu uzņemti, gan tādi, kurus ar trosi jāvelk. Bet beigās uzmanība aiziet azartspēļu pagrabam un pārējais aizmirstas; tā arī netapa skaidrs, kādu kāršu spēli viņi rīkoja. Noslēgums ar sava veida mācību, kura, šķiet, dod vien izbīli.

Pagāja kāds brīdis līdz pieradu pie valodas stila, sevišķi, īpašības vārdiem ar pievienotiem i burtiem.

                                                                                                                                           

Someday Niklāvs receives an offer from a representative of American investors with potentially very big profits. Niklāvs together with his buddies give an impression of some small kids who want to play with big boys, and only occasionally with some of their own initiative. Also of course they aren’t those who would turn down an opportunity of easy money.

The author doesn’t delay condemn the representative together with Americans, and sometimes also saying negatively about Latvians that they aren’t able to do what has to be done to take an advantage when the opportunity is in front of the eyes.

The Uncle of Niklāvs is a minister which helps out a lot. It is shown how benefiting it can be to have a relative in high positions. I guess nothing much has changed since.

The offer includes to establish a society that would unite all other societies and unions into one, to open up houses in which to relax and spend free time etc.; from that follows all adventures and mishaps for Niklāvs. There are some that are literally throwing themselves just so he would accept their involvement, and also some who need big persuading. But in the end all the attention goes to the basement where Niklāvs and his pals are organising illegal card games; couldn’t figure out which one. In conclusion there is a lesson (kinda) but it seems without much results.

It took me a while to adjust to the old writing and language style.
